How to use this guide

We have not handled or tested any listing. This checklist uses TI support information and asks you to verify the condition of the exact item for sale.

1. Confirm the exact model

Ask for clear photos of the front and back, including the model name. TI lists the TI-84 Plus, TI-84 Plus CE, and TI-84 Plus CE Python as separate models in its support instructions ↗. Do not assume a listing labeled only “TI-84” is the CE you need. If a class or exam requires a specific calculator, check its current rules with that organization.

2. Ask it to charge and start

Ask the seller to show the calculator on after charging, then on again after disconnecting the cable. Request a close photo of the USB port. TI says a loose fit, debris, or damaged connector can prevent charging, and its troubleshooting instructions call for a charge of at least three hours when diagnosing a unit that will not turn on. A seller’s quick “plugged in” photo is weaker evidence than a working demonstration. TI power troubleshooting ↗

3. Check screen and keys in use

Ask for a short video moving through a menu, entering a calculation, and displaying the result. Request an angled photo of the lit screen to reveal scratches or dark areas. TI specifically tells users to check for stuck keys when troubleshooting function problems. TI troubleshooting ↗

4. Test the computer connection if you need it

If you plan to transfer files or update the operating system, ask whether the calculator appears under “Connected Calculators” in TI Connect CE when attached by USB. TI includes this as a verification step in its OS update instructions ↗. A charging symbol alone does not prove data connection. You do not need to ask a seller to update or reset the calculator just for your purchase; TI warns that some troubleshooting steps can erase programs and data.

5. Price the listing as it actually stands

Confirm whether a charging cable, slide case, and any other pictured accessories are included. Compare the total with shipping and applicable tax. Treat “untested” as uncertainty, even if the exterior looks clean. Read the exact return terms and save the description before paying; eBay’s current Money Back Guarantee policy ↗ explains when an eligible purchase may be covered.

A simple pass rule

Consider it when the CE model is clear, it runs after unplugging, the screen and keys respond, and the total cost and return terms work for you.

Pass for now when the model is unclear, the USB port looks damaged, the device will not boot reliably, or the seller cannot show basic function.
