How to use this guide

We have not handled or tested any listing. This is a pre-purchase checklist, not a guarantee that a seller’s controller works.

1. Identify the Plus model

Nintendo says the Wii Remote Plus has “Wii MotionPlus INSIDE” printed below the Wii logo. The model number at the bottom is RVL-036; the original Wii Remote is RVL-003. Ask for close photos of those markings if the listing is vague. Nintendo identification guide ↗

2. Inspect condition and accessories

  • Ask for a photo inside the battery compartment and look for visible residue or corrosion.
  • Confirm the battery cover is included and closes securely.
  • Check the connector at the bottom and ask about loose or damaged buttons.
  • Confirm whether a wrist strap or silicone jacket is included if you need them.

Nintendo warns that leaking batteries can damage the remote. A clean exterior photo does not show the battery contacts. Nintendo safety guidance ↗

3. Request a useful test

Ask whether the controller has been synced to a Wii console recently and whether buttons respond in a menu or game. Nintendo’s sync instructions say the player LEDs blink during pairing and one remains lit when it connects. A photo of LEDs alone is weaker evidence than a description of a successful console test. A simple pass rule

Consider it when the RVL-036 marking is visible, the battery compartment looks clean, the seller reports a recent console test, and the total price and return terms work for you.

Pass for now when model photos are missing, the battery bay shows damage, or the seller calls it “tested” without explaining what was tested.
